Gracias Art por sacar un hueco para hacer esta entrevista. Art, usted ha aprendido a tocar la guitarra usted mismo, ¿es eso cierto?

Art Adams: En su mayor parte, si, soy autodidacta, he tenido algo de ayuda del marido de mi hermana, Dave Logsdon, ambos fallecidos.

¿Puede contarnos sobre su vida?¿Cuándo comenzó a cantar?

Art Adams: Soy un simple chico de campo de Carrollton, Kentucky. Crecí en una sucia granja, lo que significa que trabajé en la granja con mulas y caballos, no teníamos maquinaria, así que era un trabajo muy duro.

Dejé la granja a una temprana edad, intenté trabajar en algo relacionado con la música, pero, siempre trabajé en trabajos por el día, estoy abatido por todas las cosas que me pasaron desde 2003 que es cuando regresé al negocio de la música, y, podía viajar por todo el mundo, yo he visto de todo y me encanta conocer buena gente, nunca piso a nadie.

Siempre tengo tiempo para los fans, escritores, locutores de radio, entrevistas, firmar autógrafos y lo que sea, he firmado muchas cosas diferentes, como he dicho soy muy humilde y, agradezco mucho que a la gente le guste mi música, parece que estoy en buena forma y creo que puedo seguir con esto por más tiempo.

Sin duda es estupendo encontrar gente como usted. Art, usted ha aparecido en vivo en el WTTV Canal 4 en 1959, ¿cuáles son sus recuerdos de aquel día?

Art Adams: Sí, aparecí en el Ch.4 WTTV para promocionar mis discos, no tocamos, ellos pusieron el disco y lo movimos los labios, simplemente actuamos como si estuviéramos tocando.

¿Ha actuado en el Grand Ole Opry?

Art Adams: No, nunca actué en el Opry, pero ¡me hubiera encantado!. Todavía tengo la oportunidad, pero he tocado en Las Vegas 3 veces.

¿Por qué no fue possible trabajar en Sun Records?

Art Adams: Fuí allí con dos canciones en 1959, Sam Phillips no estaba pero, Cowboy Jack Clement sí, él me escuchó y dijo que trabajase mi propio estilo y regresase, yo tenía dos canciones de música country, “She´s from Tennessee” y otra que no recuerdo.

Yo tenía un amigo, Johnny Harriett que estaba en la Cherry en Nashville, me dijo que estaba buscando Artistas, yo tenia la canción “Dancing Doll” y “Indian Joe” , Nashville estaba a 300 millas de mi casa y Memphis a 700, así que opté por Nashville, si miro atrás y veo lo populares que han sido mis canciones y cómo la Sun es lo Máximo en cuanto a Rockabilly, desearía haber vuelto a la Sun.

Yo regresé, toque en Memphis para el Rockabilly Hall of Fame en el Overton Park, donde tocaron Cash, Elvis, Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis,…

Es muy interesante. He escuchado que tiene la misma guitarra, una Martin, desde 1952 y continúa tocando con ella, ¿por qué le gusta tanto?

Art Adams: Efectivamente, tengo la misma guitarra, una Martin d-28 que compré en 1952, un chico de mi vecindario le pintó mi nombre en ella, su nombre era Bobby Mull Nix, no era músico, pero era un gran artista.

¿Qué es lo mejor que le ha pasado en su carrera musical?

Art Adams: Creo que la mejor cosa que me ha pasado es que después de trabajar por 30 años en el negocio de la música, ahora puedo volver a todos esos sitios increibles y tocar, he estado en Inglaterra diez veces, en Escocia cuatro, en Suecia cuatro, en Finlandia, Dinamarca, Francia, España, en Canadá varias veces.

¿Le gusta dar giras por Europa?

Art Adams: Me encantan los fans de Europa, me tratan como si fuera una estrella, son Geniales, he hecho muchos amigos en Europa. Mucha gente me llamaba o contactaba conmigo a través de los años pero yo no estaba interesado, hasta que escuché que Stray Cats robó mi canción. Los escritores de canciones de aquí y de Chicago trabajaron sobre ello, la canción era “Rock Crazy Baby” y la suya “Rock this Town”, ahora soy amigo de Slim Jim.

¿Qué hay sobre sus planes futuros?

Art Adams: Soy miembro del Rockabilly Hall of fame, he sido presentado como Artista de la semana en la página hace unas semanas. Tengo una banda de Rockabilly que es muy buena, estamos muy ocupados, he grabado cuatro CD´s en Norton a las afueras de New York y un EP 45 para celebrar el 50 aniversario.

Los miembros de mi banda de los cuales estoy muy orgulloso son Mike Straus, upright bass, Tim Gibson, Elec. Guitar y, Greg Cole en la batería.

Tocamos Rockabilly y verdadero Country, estamos preparados para hacer un cd este año nuevo.

Thank you Art for this interview. Art, you have learn to play guitar by yourself, is that right?

Art Adams: By most part yes I'm self taught, I did have some help

from my sister's husband, Dave Logsdon, both have passed.

Can you tell us about your life , when and how did you started?

Art Adams: I'm just a country boy from Carrollton, KY. I grew up on a dirt farm, that means we worked the farm with mules and, horses we had no machines, so, it was very hard work.

I left the farm at a very young age, I tried to make it in music, but, I always worked a day job, I'm humbled for all the things that come my way since 2003 that's when I returned to the music business, and, to be able to travel all over like I have I've seen a lot and, enjoyed meeting nice people, I never put myself above anyone.

I always have time for the fans, writers radio people, interviews, signing photo's and anything else, I've signed a lot of different things, as I said I'm very humble and, I'm thankful that people like my music, I seem to be in good health so, I guess I can do it a bit longer.

It is great to find people like you. You have appeared live on WTTV Channel 4 in 1959, what are your favourite memories of that day?

Art Adams: Yes,I appeared on Ch.4 WTTV to promoter my recordings

we didn't play they played to record and, we lipped it, just acted like we were playing.

Did you play at Grand Ole Opry?

Art Adams: No I never played the Opry, but, would like too! I may still get the chance,but,I've played Vegas 3 times.

Why was not possible to sign with Sun Records?

Art Adams: I forgot Sun Records, I went down with 2 songs in 1959, Sam Phillips wasn't there but, Cowboy Jack Clement was, he listen told me to work on my own style then come back, I had two country songs, She's from Tennessee and, I don't remember the other one.

I had a friend Johnny Harriett that was on Cherry in Nashville, he told me they were looking for Artists, I had “Dancing Doll” and, “Indian Joe” then Nashville was only 300 miles from home and Memphis was 700, so, I opt for Nashville, as I look back to how popular my songs got, and, how Sun is a Rockabilly Gem, I wish I had went back to Sun.

I have been back I played in Memphis for the Rockabilly Hall of Fame at the Overton Park, where Cash, Elvis, Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis played.

Very interesting. I heard that you have the same guitar, a Martin, since 1952 and you still playing with it, why do you like it so much?

Art Adams: Yes, I have the Same Martin d-28 guitar I brought in 1952, a Boyhood friend painted my name on it, his name was Bobby Mull Nix, he wasn't a musician, but, he was a artist.

What is the best thing that has happening in your music career?

Art Adams: I guess the best thing that's happen is that after being out of music for 30 years, now I get to go to all these neat places and play, I've been to England 10 times, Scotland 4,Sweden 4, Finland, Denmark, France, Spain,

I've been to Canada several times, both sides.

Do you like to tour Europe?

Art Adams: I love the fans in Europe, they treat me like I'm a star, they are Awesome, I've made many friends in Europe.

Many people had call me or, got in touch with me through the years but, I had no Interest, I did get a bit involved when I was told that the Stray Cats stole my song, Music writers here and, Chicago worked on it, but, in the end it wasn't straight 8 bars, the Song was “Rock Crazy Baby”, and, theirs was “Rock this Town”, now I'm friends with Slim Jim.

What about your future plans?

Art Adams: I'm a member of the Rockabilly Hall of fame, I was the featured Artist of the week on the home page a few weeks back. I've got a great Rockabilly band here we stay busy, I've recorded 4 cd's Norton out of New York released a 50 year anniversary EP 45.

My band members of which I'm really proud of are Mike Strauss upright bass, Tim Gibson Elec. Guitar and, Greg Cole Drums,

We play all great Rockabilly and, true Country, we are getting ready to record a new cd this year.
