Randy & The Rainbows es un grupo blanco de Maspeth, Queens, New York. En sus comienzos se llamaron The Dialtones y después fueron también conocidos como Jr. & The Counts. Randy & The Rainbows es uno de los últimos grupos de Doo Wop en alcanzar un éxito antes de la invasión británica. Llegaron a posicionarse en los diez primeros éxitos en las listas a nivel nacional con su canción “Denise” en 1963. Junto con The Four Seasons, The Beach Boys, The Drifters y muchos otros grupos del momento ofrecieron actuaciones por todo el país

Randy, muchas gracias por permitirme entrevistarle. ¿Qué música le gustaba cuando era niño?

Randy Safuto: A los 3 años de edad ya me gustaban grupos que hacían armonías, siendo una gran influencia para mi, como The Gaylord's, The Mills Brothers, Lil Anthony and Imperials, Symphony's, etc.

¿En dónde conoció a Frank, Eddie y Rosalie?

Randy Safuto: Frank es mi hermano, Eddie, mi primo. Rosalie era una amiga que vivía en la misma manzana, en Brooklyn.

¿Cómo llegaron a grabar con Laurie?

Randy Safuto: Conocimos a Neil Levenson, que escribió “Denise”, por Denise Lefrak, que conocía a The Tokens y ellos son los que nos ofrecieron ir a Laurie Records.

¿Qué recuerda sobre sus giras a principios de los años 60 con grupos como The Drifters, Little Anthony and The Imperials, The Beach Boys,...?

Randy Safuto: Mucha diversion y risas. Buenos tiempos.

¿Qué es lo mejor que le ocurrió en su carrera?

Randy Safuto: Haber conseguido un éxito, los Fans, la Familia y hacer muchos nuevos amigos.

¿Cómo enfrentaron la invasión británica?

Randy Safuto: Afectó a todos, excepto a grupos muy famosos como Four Seasons, Beach Boys, etc.

¿Continúan ofreciendo giras?

Randy Safuto: Hacemos tours de vez en cuando, y damos conciertos por la zona.

Randy & The Rainbows a white vocal group from Maspeth, Queens, NY, started as The Dialtones, and Jr. & The Counts. Randy & The Rainbows were one of the last Doo Wop groups to hit the top 100 before the british invasion, they charted with their 1963 hit single "Denise" as a national top 10 Hit. They toured with groups like The Four Seasons, The Beach Boys, The Drifters and many more

Thank you Randy for allowing me to interview you, what music influenced you when were a child?

Randy Safuto: At age 3 groups with harmony were a big influence The Gaylord's, The Mills Brothers, Lil Anthony and Imperials, Symphony's etc.

Where did you meet Frank, Eddie and Rosalie?

Randy Safuto: Frank is my brother, Eddie, my cousin. Rosalie was a friend who lived up the block in Brooklyn.

How did you first record with Laurie Records?

Randy Safuto: We met Neil Levenson who wrote Denise, for Denise Lefrak ,who new The Tokens, and they took the record to Laurie Records.

What do you remember about the tours in the early 60´s with The Drifters, Little Anthony and The Imperials, The Beach Boys,...?

Randy Safuto: All fun and laughs, good times.

What was the best thing that has happened in your career?

Randy Safuto: Having a hit record, Fans, Family and making many new friends.

How did you face the british invasion?

Randy Safuto: It affected everyone except Four Seasons, Beach Boys, etc.
