Clyde McPhatter - Hank Ballard - Lloyd Price - Freddie Pride - Sam Cooke - Dee Clark
Etta James compuso una respuesta a dicha canción, llamada "You've Got To Roll With Me Henry".
"Work With Me Annie", "Annie Had a Baby", "Annie's Aunt Fannie",...
Nunca me pegó.

¿Cuándo empezaste a actuar?
"This Cup" sigue siendo pinchado en Inglaterra.
Muchas gracias y mucha suerte, Daryle.
Realmente honrado.

Today, his son Daryle will talk about his father's life and his own music career
Daryle, thank you very much for taking some time off from your busy schedule to answer a few questions about your father and about your life, I know you are working on the release of your first album. Who influenced your father apart of Gene Autry and Clyde McPhatter?
Daryle Ballard: Sam Cooke was a big influence. Sam became an adopted family member. Of course he's known as uncle Sam to me. Lol
Though they started as a Doo Wop group, do you think it was "Sexy Ways" the song that solidified their reputation as R&B's band?
Daryle Ballard: The "Sexy Ways" question, I maybe too young at the time to answer. I was born about 4 months after "The Twist" was released.
What was Hank Ballard's link with Johnny Otis?
Daryle Ballard: Dad was discovered by Johnny Otis in 1954. Otis produced a recording with Hank Ballard's Midnighters that became a number one R&B hit on Syd Nathan's Federal Label. Dad named the song "Sock It To Me Annie", but Otis convinced him to change the title to "Work With Me Annie" that it was in the charts for twenty six weeks. Etta James composed an answer to that song called "You've Got To Roll With Me Henry".
"Work With Me Annie", "Annie Had a Baby", "Annie's Aunt Fannie",.... who was Annie?
Daryle Ballard: Annie was a girlfriend he had in Virginia.
In 1958, Ballard recorded a demo of “The Twist” for Vee-Jay Records but he was covered by Chubby Checker too, for example . What were your father's thoughts about that?
Daryle Ballard: Dad has always been given credit for The Twist, and the respect. That's why he's in the Hall of FAME and Chubby CHECKER is not. Dad never felt disappointed Chubby getting the "credit". He's glad someone believed in the song. My mom though says different.
What was he like as a father?
Daryle Ballard: As a dad he was cool. Never wiped me. Even when I made a mistake a caused a forest fire. Mom was the wupper. Lol Dad loved talking politics, music & sports.
What was your childhood like growing up with a famous parent?
Daryle Ballard: Childhood was entertainment 24/7. Can you imagine The Midnighters, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson and James Brown in your house at the same time? But also it was strange because Dad would go on tour for long periods of time. Once he was gone so long, I didn't even remember him and he scared me. Think I was like 2 years old. I think that hurt him. It's cool having a famous father but between His fans and his family, the fans got more attention, being obligated to the record company. Mom and I meet him.on tour sometimes, but most times i'm left at home with my Nanny, who later became my god mother.
I noticed Michael Jackson influences in your style. Has Hank Ballard influenced you?

I noticed Michael Jackson influences in your style. Has Hank Ballard influenced you?
Daryle Ballard: Michael is an influence on my music but Teddy Pendergrass & Jeffrey Osborne are my main influences. The way dad worked the stage amazed me a lot.
And what about your cousin Florence Ballard of The Supremes? Was she an influence for you?
Daryle Ballard: Met cousin FLORENCE BALLARD only a couple of times. Both times though was amazing also. Just sad how she was treated by Motown. Dad had it rough too. The music business can be ugly if your "i" is dotted and your "t" not crossed. I'm proud to have 2 Relatives in the Rock Hall though.
Can you tell us about your career? when did you start performing?
Daryle Ballard: I was the lead singer in the group TIMEZONE. The U.S. Navy sponsored the group. During an overseas tour, the leader of the band held a meeting....about me! Their complaint? I MOVED AROUND ON STAGE TOO MUCH aka hogging their spotlight. After that meeting i'd vow to finish the tour and then go solo, but wasn't sure about what genre I would choose. God then chose it for me. My first attempt to write a song about a women turned out to be a song about Jesus...and I didn't even like gospel music. Which proves I just had a supernatural experience with God. I've now written over 60 songs but the Holy Spirit is the REAL writer.
What are your future projects?
Daryle Ballard: I signed with WORLD ENTERTAINMENT, but long story short I renege on the contract which made me bound to the contract. I couldn't make money for 3 years from my music. But in that 3 year, God ordained me Pastor. God's plan. Now I´m about to release my first album titled, "7 God". Releasing the first single, "Everything To Me", produced by Lauryen Hill, in February. I have 2 singles on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify. That's "Jesus Lover" and "This Cup", which is produced by Jamie Foxx. Both singles sold over 6,000 units. "This Cup" is still being played in the U.K.
Thank you very much and good luck,
Daryle.
