The Elegants es un grupo vocal Americano de Doo Wop que fue formado en 1958 por Vito Picone, Arthur Venosa, Frank Tardogno, Carman Romano y James Mochella en Nueva York. Una composición de Mozart escrita en 1764 inspiró el tema más famoso de The Elegants, “Little Star” que alcanzó el número 1 en 1958.
Fue el segundo grupo blanco de Doo Wop de la historia que consiguió un número uno en los años 50 (Danny and The Juniors “At The Hop “ fue el primero en 1957). The Elegants estuvieron de gira con artistas como Buddy Holly, Dion and The Belmonts, Chuck Berry y Jerry Lee Lewis. Vito redireccionó su experiencia musical profesional y la enfocó a dirigir uno de los grupos de hip-hop vocal más famoso de finales de los años 80 y todavía sigue en activo recordando temas del pasado

Vito Picone: Carman y yo decidimos continuar, dando un giro renovador. Vivíamos cerca, nos separaban un par de casas. Artie frecuentaba nuestro vecindario y nos presentó a Jimmy. Frankie y yo fuimos juntos al instituto.

A: He leido que fuiste herido en 1961 en un accidente de tráfico, ¿cómo influenció en tu carrera?
Vito Picone: Perdí vista en mi ojo izquierdo debido a un accidente, pero no de coche. Estuve convaleciente por una temporada y los demás chicos grabaron un par de canciones sin mí.
A: Continuaste tu carrera como artista en solitario ¿cómo pudiste hacerlo en los años 60 y 70? ¿Continúas actuando?
Vito Picone: Cuando regresé, empecé como artista en solitario y después en una banda de Rock a mediados de los años 60. En los años 70 hice un revival show con los chicos con los que estoy en la actualidad y continuamos trabajando hoy en día.

The Elegants were the second white Doo Wop group in history to have a number one hit (Danny and The Juniors did it first in 1957) with "At The Hop" The Elegants toured with such artists as Buddy Holly and the Crickets , Dion and the Belmonts, Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis. During the late 80's, Vito Picone redirected his music business experience and expertise toward personal management, handling one of the hottest hip-hop vocal groups at the time and as of today he is still actively performing in concert all over the country
A: Why did you change the name The Crescents for The Elegants?
Vito Picone: The Crescents broke up when the record company died

Vito Picone: Carman and I decided to continue with a fresh start. We lived a couple of houses away from each other, Artie hung out in our neighborhood and he introduced us to Jimmy. Frankie and I went to High School together
A: Can you tell us about your favourite memories when you toured with Buddy Holly, Dion and the Belmonts, Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis in 1958?

Vito Picone: Alan Freed show was the greatest feeling ever
A: Do you think Little Star influenced many young white groups?
Vito Picone: I have been told by many artists that the were influenced by our style of singing
A: I´ve read you were in jured in 1961 in a traffic accident, how did it influenced on you?
Vito Picone: Lost sight in my left eye from an accident but not a car I was laid up for quite a while and the guys recorded a couple of songs without me
A: You carried on singing as solo artist, how could you manage that in the 60´s and 70´s? Are you still performing?
Vito Picone: When I returned I started a solo act and the a rock band in the mid sixties. 1970 I did a revival show with the current guys and we are still working today
