On July 3, 1954, at the suggestion of Sam Phillips, Scotty Moore gave a young ELVIS PRESLEY a call to see if he would like to audition for a band. Lore has it that Elvis was at the movies when the call came and his Mother made sure he got the message right away & returned Scotty's call within an hour. The call set up a meeting for the next day at Scotty's house to go over some songs with Scotty's partner Bill Black. As told in the great book, "Last Train to Memphis, while not overly impressed on the first meeting, both men agreed "that cat can sing" ... so they agreed to all come here to 706 Union to see if they could make some magic happen.
