February 26, 1955 - LaVern Baker appealed to Congress in a letter to Michigan Representative Charles Digges Jr. The letter requested the revision of the Copyright Act of 1909. She says that recording artists should be protected against "note-for-note copying" of already recorded R&B tunes and arrangements by White artists and arrangers. Her request was denied.
